Why is there one set of curriculum books for Grades 9-12?
Our curriculum for Grades 9-12 is a unique product that can be used in various high school classes. We recognize the various academic levels of students in high school and intentionally created a product to meet the needs of all student populations.
- Section 1 includes 20 lessons that teach students the foundational skills of essay writing through non-text-based expository writing. This is an excellent place to start for beginning or struggling writers. Many intervention-type classrooms have had great success increasing students’ ability to write structured, organized essays with these lessons.
- Sections 2 and 3 teach students how to write text-based informative/expository and argumentative essays. Here, we extend students’ writing skills to include incorporating evidence, referencing sources, addressing counterclaim arguments, etc. There are 53 lessons in these sections that break the writing process down into a series of small specific skills. We then provide lots of repetition practice, which allows students to master each step while building confidence along the way.
- Section 4 teaches students how to write a research paper. Throughout 16 lessons, we teach students how to write a thoughtful and accurate research paper from start to finish. Each lesson is designed to explicitly teach students how to navigate through this often overwhelming writing process. It includes lessons on planning, structuring a thesis statement, and choosing reputable sources, including citations, bibliographies, etc.
- Section 5 is designed to prepare 11th and 12th-grade students for the writing they will need to do on college applications. In these 10 lessons, we teach students the different types of essays they will need to write while completing college applications. There are numerous example prompts, completed responses, and tips on generating unique response ideas that catch the attention of admission offices.
